At the beginning of October I received, as I do each month, the newsletter from cosmeticindustry.com informing me of the latest developments in the world of beauty in the USA. It lists a new site as one offering "reviews of wrinkle creams": www.theperformanceleader.com: at a time when consumers are searching for effective anti-aging products (see my previous "Beauty" notes) this site seems really tempting!
It displays as a site related to product testing. More than 150 anti-aging creams are tested and their advantages and disadvantages are described: "Overview" / "Product details" / "The Good" / "The Bad" / "The Bottom Line" ... On each page it shows the "Top Choice for 2008: Dermapril-SP". This "Top choice for 2008" is vaunted as near to perfection as one can get, in terms of ingredients, effectiveness, price and after-sales service ...
The name of the site intrigues me: "The Performance Leader". I reread the text related to each test: "This Website and its writers are sponsored by Rauscher Bekker, the makers of Dermapril-SP. The information on this site is intended to educate and inform consumers"! This is therefore not an independent product test site, but a marketing tactic at the service of Dermapril.
Continuing my investigation, I search for information on Rauscher Bekker: I find another test site www.wrinklereview.com - which informs me that, "We were not able to find any information on Rauscher Bekker. No corporate contact information is available, even on press releases. By their repeated use of the word "patented," the manufacturer of Dermapril-SP leads you to believe that Matrixyl 3000 is exclusive to their formulation. Matrixyl is in fact just the trademarked name for palmitoyl pentapeptide, commonly licensed in the newer high end anti wrinkle skin care products. In fact, Matrixyl actually works better in combination with other peptides, of which Dermapril-SP has none. Additionally, the SP-Dermapril formula lacks botanicals and antioxidants commonly found in best anti wrinkle creams. There is no trademark information available for Dermapril-SP or Rauscher Bekker. "
